Calf augmentation is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to improve calf size and shape. This procedure is usually done to treat calves that are too small or out of proportion to the rest of the leg.
Here are some key points to consider when it comes to calf growth:
1- Consultation:
- After discussing your goals, expectations and medical history.
- Dr. Abdelaali will assess the current size of your calves, discuss the available options and determine if you are an appropriate candidate for the procedure.
2- Types of Calf augmentation:
- Implants: Silicone implants can be used to increase calf size.
- Lipofilling: Fat can be taken from another part of the body and injected into the calves to increase their volume.
One can also associate its two procedures.
This type of surgery is done under general anesthesia, lasts 2 hours with a 48-hour hospitalization in a clinic and a stay of 5 to 7 days in Tunisia.

3- Surgical Procedure:
- Surgery typically involves making small incisions in discrete locations (such as the flexion fold of the knee opposite the popliteal fossa) to insert the implants or inject fat.
- The implants can be placed between the twin calf muscle and its fascia, while fat can be injected at various locations depending on the technique used.
4- Recovery:
- Bruising and swelling may occur, but these symptoms will lessen over time.
- The person resumes daily activities after a week, work takes place between one and two weeks, and exercise takes place after two to three months. It is not recommended to drive during the first ten days.
5- Risks and Considerations:
- As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks such as infection, reaction to implants, or an unsightly scar.
6- Post-Operative Follow-Up
- Patients should follow the postoperative instructions of their surgeon, which may include wearing compression garments and taking anticoagulants.
- The calf implant is placed so that the enlargement is visible from the front and from the side. Since the silicone gel has a consistency very close to that of the tissues, the presence of the prosthesis is very little perceptible to the touch and the shape of the calves appears very natural. Implants can be worn for life or removed when requested by the patient.
